Overview

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is a combination of procedures — customized to each patient — designed to address the physical changes that pregnancy, breastfeeding, and significant weight changes bring to the body. There is no single "standard" Mommy Makeover: the right combination depends entirely on your anatomy, your goals, and your priorities.

The most common combination includes a tummy tuck (to address loose abdominal skin and separated muscles), a breast procedure (lift, augmentation, or reduction depending on your goals), and liposuction to contour areas that diet and exercise don't fully reach. Most patients choose to have all procedures performed in a single operation — reducing total downtime and overall cost.

Dr. Levesque will build your plan in Austin, TX around what matters most to you — whether that's restoring the breast shape you had before breastfeeding, flattening and tightening your abdomen, or addressing multiple areas at once.

Common Combination
  • Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
  • Breast Lift ± Augmentation
  • Liposuction (flanks, hips, thighs)
  • Breast Reduction (if needed)
  • All performed in one surgery
Good Candidates

Done having children · At or near goal weight · Non-smoker · In good overall health · Realistic expectations about outcomes

Planning

Timing and preparation

Dr. Levesque recommends waiting until you are done having children before pursuing a Mommy Makeover. A subsequent pregnancy can undo the results of a tummy tuck or breast procedure. There is no rush — and the results are far more durable when the timing is right.

For patients who have recently lost weight through GLP-1 medications like semaglutide or tirzepatide, Dr. Levesque recommends waiting until your weight has been stable for at least 3–6 months before scheduling surgery. This allows the skin to settle and gives the most accurate picture of what surgery can achieve.

Recovery requires real help at home. Most patients need 2 weeks before returning to a desk job, 4–6 weeks before returning to exercise. You will need someone with you for the first several days — plan for this before your surgery date.

What to expect at your consultation

Dr. Levesque will examine you, ask about your history, and discuss your goals in detail. He will recommend the combination of procedures that best addresses your concerns — and he will be honest about what surgery can and cannot accomplish.

He may recommend staging certain procedures (doing them separately) if the combined operative time would be too long for safe anesthesia. He will also discuss the location of scars so you know what to expect before committing.

The Process

What to Expect

Medically reviewed by Dr. Andre Y. Levesque, MD · Board-certified plastic surgeon (ABPS) · Last reviewed October 22, 2025

A mommy makeover combines procedures — most often a tummy tuck with a breast lift or augmentation, and frequently liposuction — into one surgery and one recovery. Here is how it works.

Your Consultation

Dr. Levesque listens to what bothers you most after pregnancy and breastfeeding, examines the abdomen and breasts, and builds a customized combination rather than a one-size template.

Surgery Day

Performed under general anesthesia in an accredited facility, typically three to five hours depending on the combination. The procedures are staged in one anesthetic to consolidate downtime.

Recovery

Most patients take two to three weeks off and arrange help at home, especially with young children. Strenuous activity and heavy lifting are restricted for about six weeks.

Candidacy

Am I a Candidate?

A mommy makeover is tailored to changes from pregnancy and breastfeeding. Good candidates usually:

  • Are finished having children (recommended, since future pregnancy can reverse abdominal results)
  • Are at or near a stable weight and in good general health
  • Have concerns like abdominal skin laxity, separated muscles (diastasis recti), and breast volume or position changes
  • Are non-smokers and have realistic expectations and help lined up for recovery
Built around you

No two mommy makeovers are identical. Some patients need a full tummy tuck with muscle repair and a breast lift; others want augmentation with light liposuction. Dr. Levesque designs the combination to your body and goals.

Timeline

Recovery Timeline

  • First week: Rest with help at home; you'll move in a slightly bent position while the abdomen heals. Drains, if used, are typically removed within the first week or two.
  • Weeks 2–3: Many patients return to desk work; you can stand upright comfortably as swelling eases. No lifting children or heavy objects yet.
  • Weeks 4–6: Gradual return to light exercise; continue avoiding strenuous core and upper-body work until cleared.
  • 3–6 months: Swelling fully resolves and results settle; scars begin their long fade with proper care.
Investment

Cost & Financing

Because a mommy makeover is a custom combination, the fee depends on which procedures are included. Combining them into one anesthetic is generally more efficient than doing each separately. Exact pricing is provided at consultation.

Levesque Plastic Surgery offers financing through CareCredit, Alphaeon, Cherry, and PatientFi, with monthly-payment plans that can be pre-qualified in minutes without affecting your credit. See our financing options or the full menu of services & pricing.

FAQ

Common questions

Most patients feel comfortable at home for about 2 weeks and can get back to a desk job. Light activity resumes around week 4, and full exercise around 6–8 weeks. Because we combine the procedures, you go through one recovery rather than separate ones for each.
I can't guarantee breastfeeding after any breast surgery. This is an important conversation to have at your consultation — I'll talk through technique options that may better preserve milk-duct function.
Yes — when it's done by a board-certified surgeon in an accredited facility with a board-certified anesthesiologist, combining procedures is well-established and safe. I'll assess your health and plan the combination so operative time stays within safe limits.
Yes. I directly address diastasis recti — the separation of the abdominal muscles that's common after pregnancy — during the tummy tuck by suturing the muscles back together. That often dramatically improves the 'mommy pooch' that no amount of exercise can fix.
I generally recommend it. A future pregnancy can stretch the abdominal skin and separate the muscles again, undoing the tummy tuck part, and another pregnancy and breastfeeding can change your breast result too.
Most patients plan for two to three weeks away from work and arrange help at home — especially with young children, since I'll have you avoid lifting for about six weeks.
Yes — I commonly add liposuction of the flanks or other areas to refine your overall contour during the same procedure.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is included in a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is a customized combination of procedures tailored to restore your pre-pregnancy body. Common components include a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) with diastasis recti repair, a breast augmentation, a breast lift, or both, and liposuction. I design each plan around your individual anatomy and goals.

Can a mommy makeover be done in a single surgery?

Yes — combining procedures in a single surgery is one of the main advantages of a mommy makeover, since it reduces your total recovery time and anesthesia exposure compared to separate operations. I carefully plan the sequence of procedures to keep you safe and get the best outcome.

When can I have a mommy makeover?

The ideal timing is after you've finished having children (future pregnancies can reverse the results), you've held a stable weight for at least 6 months, you're done breastfeeding, and you're in good overall health. I generally recommend waiting at least 6 months after your last delivery before we proceed.

How long is mommy makeover recovery?

Recovery depends on which procedures we include. Most patients take 2–3 weeks off work and have lifting restrictions for 4–6 weeks, with the abdominal work needing the most recovery time. I give you a detailed recovery plan and see you at regular intervals throughout healing.

Will a mommy makeover help with diastasis recti?

Yes — the tummy tuck that's usually part of a mommy makeover includes internal repair of the separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti repair). That addresses the post-pregnancy belly no amount of exercise can fix, and it's one of the most transformative parts of the procedure for moms.
